Computer Systems and Software Engineering (CSSE)

Our graduates understand business processes and the role of information systems in solving business problems. Above all, they communicate and collaborate effectively.”

-Sue Pfeifer, VCSU Assistant Professor and Department Chair of CSSE

Software Engineering (SE) (B.A., and B.S.)

  • The Software Engineering major at VCSU is the only one of its kind in the North Dakota University system. VCSU’s Software Engineering degree offers design to documentation and everything in between.
  • The curriculum for the SE major was developed using the Software Engineering Education Knowledge (SEEK) standards developed by the Joint Task Force on Computing Curricula (IEEE Computer Society and the Association for Computing Machinery, 2004). Students with an SE degree can become IT project managers, business analysts, software developers, and more.

Computer Information Systems (CIS) (B.A., and B.S.)

  • The Computer Information Systems major prepares students with a foundation in business and problem solving skills required to design and implement technology solutions to support business needs. Adobe, SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, and other well-known vendor applications and technologies are used to complete the hands-on projects. Students often work in teams to encourage the learning of group dynamics and soft-skills.
